SERIAL PROSTITUTION AMONG UNIVERSTY STUDENTS

 By Robert Mwandinda

Where is the world’s moral heading to? Advancement in technology and new trends in life and business have revolutionized a lot of changes in our current society. The whole world at large has been swooped by these advancements such that it turns blind to our once treasured virtues of life. Could it be due to the ease with which people intermingle by the use of new technologies or humanity has long been forgotten?

Well, wonders never cease! Having advanced on many areas, the world has witnessed a lot in the so called digital era. Gone are the days when moral was considered indispensable among our societies. Due to intermingling among the people in the world, many of us have embarrassed new practices in life which clone our nativity. The once valued cultural practices are no longer hailed. A lot of borrowing has paved way for cultural aping that has resulted into eradication of our originality. I don’t say this is totally bad but where the world has reached behaviorally is overwhelming.

One of the most irking incidences recently, is the way prostitution has snaked its way among the female students in our learning institutions. Shamelessly, they have ventured into this dirty business inconsiderably. Perhaps greedy for money or increased complexity on livelihood has lured them into adopting easy ways of financing themselves. As a result, turning them into prostitution. For example, in the year 2012, some female students were found and arrested, along the coastal regions of Kenya practicing bestiality so as to get money.

As that is not enough, recently there are so many other cases of sex trade taking place underground, secretly known by the term “sponsorship”. So many young ladies have indulged in looking for financial support by being cohabited by wealthy elderly men. They transact their bodies in exchange for money. For instance, they refer to their financial helpers by the term sponsor. You could more often hear them say,” I am looking for a sponsor” or “I got a new sponsor”.
